A First Glimpse of the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is often described as one of the most beautiful places in Italy — and honestly, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

For years it had been on my travel bucket list. I had seen the photos: pastel houses stacked on dramatic cliffs, turquoise water stretching endlessly into the horizon, and winding roads hugging the coastline. It looked like a dream.

So when I finally visited in August 2024, I had high expectations.

And let me tell you — it did not disappoint in the slightest. In fact, I loved it so much that if I could have stayed another five days, I absolutely would have.

We went for a long weekend, which meant our time was limited, but it was enough to fall completely under the Amalfi Coast spell.

Yes, it was very hot.

Yes, it was very crowded.

But it was also incredibly beautiful.

The magic really begins once the daytime crowds start to disappear. In the evenings, when the cruise visitors and day-trippers leave, the towns become calmer and you can truly soak up the atmosphere — wandering through quiet streets, enjoying long dinners, and watching the sunset over the Mediterranean.

For our stay, we based ourselves in Amalfi. Since we were only there for a few days, I wanted to fully experience the charm of one place rather than constantly moving around.

Of course, there are several towns you can choose from along the coast.

The glamorous Positano is probably the most famous — and also the most expensive.

Amalfi tends to be slightly more affordable while still offering that classic Amalfi Coast atmosphere.

Other great options include Atrani, a tiny and authentic village right next to Amalfi, and Ravello, famous for its breathtaking views high above the coastline.

Where you choose to stay really depends on how many days you have and what type of experience you’re looking for.

During our trip, we stayed in an amazing Airbnb in Amalfi, which gave us the perfect base to explore the coast and enjoy the town both during the lively daytime and the peaceful evenings.
